It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re around hundreds of people at a conference. You might worry about making every second count – like if you don’t fill each moment with a handshake or business card exchange, then you’re wasting your time.

The more you stress yourself about being everywhere at once, the less you’ll take away from the experience. You’ll also lose your sense of authenticity and exhaust yourself along the way.

Networking before the event is a great way to prepare yourself for success and maximize the time available.
Here are a few tips and opportunities for networking before the Running Remote conference starts.
- Leverage the Bizzabo app. This platform provides one place for all attendees to collaborate. Once you’ve filled your profile, you can view other attendees’ profiles, join chat rooms, send DMS, and more, all before the event starts.
- Attend the pre-event networking tours. You heard it right, we are setting up travel tours in Lisbon, Portugal the day before the event. Not only do you get to network early with other attendees, but you also get a magnificent tour of Lisbon too!
- Attend our welcome party. We’ll be kicking off Running Remote 2023 officially at Pestana Palace Lisboa on April 24th, the evening before the event. You can join us for drinks and network with other attendees, organizers, and some of the speakers themselves.
- Hashtag Hunt. Search for #RunningRemote or #RR2023 on social media. People will be posting about the event using these hashtags, so it’s a great chance to connect, engage, or set up meetings with people you hope to meet. If you take pictures and videos at the event, please use these hashtags on your posts too, so others can find you.
- Quality > Quantity. Remember that it’s better to make a few deeper connections than try to make acquaintances with everyone you meet. Think about your primary goal and be intentional about who you invest your time and energy with.
3. Finding Ways to be Valuable to Others
When you start by offering value, you attract others. People will naturally want to help you and connect with you in return.
Here are a few ways you can provide value and develop relationships at the Running Remote conference.
- Drop the hidden agenda. Don’t approach others just so you can pick their brains. Respect their times. Even if they’re at a more successful point in their journey, there’s always something you can offer them in return.
